Launch of the three Euro-Mediterranean Platforms on Gas, Electricity, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Rabat 6 May 2015 – The Moroccan capital, Rabat, hosted the launch of the three Euro-Mediterranean Platforms on Gas, Electricity, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
The event was organized by the Moroccan ministry of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, in partnership with the co-presidencies of Union or the Mediterranean (UfM) and the European Union.
H.E. Dr. Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment and H.E. Miguel Arias Cañete, EU Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action delivered the opening statements at the event. Speaking at the opening were also H.E. Fathallah Sijilmassi, Secretary General of the UfM and H.E. Gahleb Maabreh, Secretary General of Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Following the opening session, a session on the three Platforms was held with the participation of Mr. Dominique Ristori, Director General of Energy, EC, The Presidents of MEDREG, MEDTSO and Medgrid and OME Director General representing OME Chairman Bruno Lescoeur.
The three Platforms launched in Rabat were decided at the Ministerial Conference organized in Rome on 18 November by the Italian Presidency of the EU and the EC and agreed at the UfM Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on 31 March 2015. The objective is to enhance the cooperation in the Euro-Med region between all the stakeholders through a bottom-up approach in order to identify barriers or opportunities in terms of demand, supply, market structure, etc…
OME is actively contributing to the three Platforms and is acting as secretariat of the Euro-Mediterranean Platform on Gas.
