Techno-Economic Potential in Mediterranean Partner Countries
MED-CSD is a 2-year project funded by the European Union DG-Research as part of their Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for research and technological development. OME is the general coordinator.
MED-CSD project aimed at:
1.Making a technology review and a selection of concentrated solar power and desalination configurations to implement in the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPCs);
2.Carrying out feasibility studies of power plants combining Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) technology with seawater desalination in the Mediterranean region;
3.Assessing the techno-economic potential of this type of combined generation in the region;
4.Elaborating an Action Plan, with a set of recommendations and adapted strategies;
5.Disseminating the results through a high-level final conference.
The project’s management meeting took place in Nanterre on 6 March 2009 and the mid-term meeting in Baden-Baden in May 2009. OME submitted to the European Commission by end of July 2009 the first year technical and financial reports. Two management committee meetings are planned for September 2009 in Italy and in February 2010 in Cyprus. The final conference is scheduled to take place in Rabat, Morocco, 18-20 May 2010 and would be linked with the Mediterranean Solar Plan.
Duration: 24 months (June 2008 – May 2010)
