How can EU and third countries benefit from cooperation on renewable energy?
More than 60 participants from several Mediterranean countries attended the high-level policy discussion on the benefits and challenges of renewable energy cooperation, organized by OME with the support of UNDP at the European Parliament.
The event, titled “HOW CAN EU AND THIRD COUNTRIES BENEFIT FROM COOPERATION ON RENEWABLE ENERGY?” represented the final stakeholder consultation of the Intelligent Energy Europe project BETTER: Bringing Europe and Third Countries closer together through Renewable energies.
The policy discussion was hosted by Mr. Davor Škrlec, Member of the Parliament (Croatia, Group of the Green/European Free Alliance) and saw the participation of Members of the European Parliament, other policy and institutional representatives from the EU, Balkan countries, North Africa and Turkey, the BETTER consortium members as well as relevant stakeholders from industry, business, energy agencies, NGO and academia.
OME’s General Director, Mrs. Houda Allal, delivered an introductory speech and chaired the session on “What is the future role of cooperation mechanisms and regional cooperation?”; the Director of the Renewable Energy and Electricity Division, Mrs. Emanuela Menichetti, chaired the final session on Conclusions, recommendations and next steps. Her synthesis will serve as a basis for a policy-oriented document which will be circulated among the participants for inputs, and then sent to the European Parliament and Commission in order to orientate policy-making and orientate the priorities in the post-2020 framework.
